don't let me die here

Even though Marcos knew better than to reach out to it, he couldn't help himself. Melaine had meant the world to him and their sudden falling out had effected him more than he ever thought it would. He hadn't been himself since they had stopped talking and every day he wondered if it would be the day where Melaine would talk to him. They had talked a little bit when Melaine had come down to help with the wall, but that felt like it had been weeks ago and Marcos thought he was starting to go crazy not being able to talk to her.

Now that he had reached out and touched her though all he wanted to do was wrap his arms around her. It wasn't something they had done before but it had taken this separation for him to truly realize how he felt about her and now that he knew how he felt it was hard to keep it from her and hide how he felt from everyone else. Standing this close to her now Marcos felt like he should talk to her and tell her how he felt, and he almost did but just before he could open his mouth Melaine dropped her hand and turned away to the window.

For a moment Marcos heart leaped from his chest, thinking that something bad was going to happen, maybe she would decide to send him away, but her words took him by surprise. The fact that she thought he took the lie so easily broke his heart. He had thought a lot about what he would tell Melaine but he had been so terrified of her being scared of him that he hadn't said anything. He hadn't ever told anyone before Melaine about his Ebon-Gray jewel and she was the only one who knew to this day.

But still his heart broke at her words. They were different, the fact that he had told her about his jewel said that. Melaine obviously did not see it that way. Unable to stop himself Marcos moved closer to Melaine reaching out to her hand. "We are different Melaine." In so many ways but she must not have been able to see that. "I can't apologize enough for hiding this from you, but my entire life I was shunned for wearing even a Red. Once I met you, I couldn't imagine a life without you in it so I kept it from you, fearing that I would once again be shunned just because of of my jewels. It might not have been the best decision, but I did what I had always done, thinking it was the only option I had." He tightened his grip on her hand. "Even to this day, you are the only one that I have told." It might have been seen as excused but Marcos had never been accepted for his birthright jewel and he had never imagined that he would be accepted for his descent jewel.

It hurt Marcos, not knowing what was going on with Melaine. They had become close friends over the years and to suddenly not be able to talk to her was something that bothered him in ways he never expected. He wanted to repair their relationship, wanted it to go back to what they had before but as time ticked by he was starting to loose hope. If he had been a more optimistic person he would have believed that Melaine showing up here was a sign, but he knew that it was just an accident.

Although Marcos didn't have a title beyond being in Melaine's first circle he still cared about the people that took those positions because they had a huge impact on Melaine and her well being. It wasn't huge deal that Melaine had not found a Court Seer yet, that was one of those positions that you wanted to be picky about but even Marcos knew that it would be good for her to find one soon, especially with the current events. Civil war had just burdened everyone and a Court Seer could help provide Melaine insight on how to best handle the situation and give her clues as to what might happen in the future. But picking the wrong Seer could also cause problems so Marcos understood why Melaine was being picky. Which was why he just nodded at her response. Melaine was a Queen wise beyond her years and Marcos had absolute faith in her.

So he focused back on his work, despite wanting to talk to her about everything he still wanted to give her her space. Maybe all the space would help them in the end, at this point Marcos was just glad that he was still in her First Circle. As Melaine spoke again Marcos looked up at sky, to determine how many more hours of day light they had. But he didn't think that hey could finish it before night fell. Looking back to Melaine Marcos shook his head gently. "I don't think that we will finish it before nightfall." Not at the rate they were going anyway. Maybe more experienced people could finish it but neither of them had the experience to work fast enough to finish it. But regardless of how much they got done, Marcos knew that the most important thing was that Melaine got to do some work. "We've gotten a lot of work done today though." Every little bit helped and Marcos knew that Melaine wanted to fix it as soon as possible but with all her duties it was hard for her to get out and do any work on the ground.

Not knowing what else to say Marcos focused back on their work, Melaine must have wanted to finish this wall, and he would do his best to help her. But all too soon the daylight was fading and they couldn't get any more work done. The wall was almost finished too. As all the workers started to pack up Marcos looked back up to his Queen. "Would you like an escort back?" He wouldn't blame her if she refused, but there was no way he wouldn't at least offer.

don't let me die here

Even though Marcos knew with every logical bone in his body that it was very unlikely that anything would happen to Melaine in her own home, he couldn't help but still feel very protective over her. It had been sometime since they had spoken and that had only served to make him more anxious. He had missed her though, he missed seeing her and talking to her. He missed everything about her and not seeing her and not knowing what was going on her in life made him anxious and worried about her.

But she had just gone out to get some air, something Marcos couldn't blame her for, all the bodies in the room had made the room heat up and he knew he was getting warm himself, but he still felt anxious leaving her with so many people around. Even if it made no sense for anyone to make a move against her with so many witnesses. Had Marcos been alone he would have shaken his head at her over protectiveness. He knew would have to rein it in eventually or it would cause more damage between them.

Happy to hear that Melaine was in fact okay, Marcos was preparing himself to leave, things had still not been normal between them and he didn't want to overstay his welcome. But he was stopped as Melaine laid a hand on his chest. Marcos froze, unsure of how to take the action. Up until now he had kept physical distance between them and Melaine had done the same, did this mean she was starting to forgive him? There were so many questions that went through his head, questions that he wasn't going to ask her. This may have been a sign of her forgiving him, but he wasn't going to push her.

However, the action still was abnormal and as much as he didn't want to ask her any questions, he did want answers. Looking down at her, Marcos studied her face, he had been by her side long enough that he was getting good at reading her face. Her face was more red then it normally was, but she said she had been hot which could have caused it. But she had also been drinking a fair amount and thinking back on it now Marcos didn't remember seeing her eat anything. Her jewels would burn of some of the alcohol, but it wouldn't burn off that much. Taking a bit of a risk Marcos raised his hand to touch her chin, raising her face so that he could look in her eyes. He knew some people found brown eyes boring but they always drew him in. But the redness in her face still bothered him. He wasn't sure if she was completely fine but he wasn't going to question her word. "It's good to hear you are okay." His words were soft, almost a whisper. "You don't need to apologize. I know I worry too much, I just don't want anything to happen to you." He couldn't bear it if something did happen to her. Moving his hand slightly, Marcos gently rubbed his thumb against her cheek before dropping his hand. He couldn't deny his feelings for her, and he hadn't meant to touch her like that but in the moment he couldn't help it. He could only hope that she didn't mind.

don't let me die here

Life in a court wasn't always easy, that much Marcos knew, but it certainly had not gotten any easier since him and Lanie had not been talking. There were very few people in the Court that talked to Marcos, most being frightened of his Jewels. So Marcos found he had a lot of free time on his hands. He tried to put most of it to good use, doing everything he could to make Melaine's transition to power easier. There wasn't a lot that he could do, but he did what he could.

As they days went by, Marcos found himself growing tired, it was the same, day in and day out. Of course he would have done anything for Melaine and he would have continued to do so, but with Melaine's birthday fast approaching he was able to focus on something else.

Ever since Marcos had told Laine about his jewels, he had started to realize just how much she meant to him. He had always known that he would do anything for her, but he had thought that was because of their bond. He had never truly realized just how far his emotions for her had run. Which was why, with her birthday fast approaching, Marcos was glad that he had time on his hands and could assist in planning her birthday party. Of course, there were plenty of people involved, but having no other major Court duties during the planning, he was able to assist quite often. Of course his new sidekick helped him as well and although he would not admit it to most people, Marcos really enjoyed working with Melaine's niece. He found it hard to say no to her and she had been one of the few bright spots when Laine and him had been at odds.

It had all worked out though, Marcos couldn't help but be impressed with how everything looked for her party. He knew Laine may not like it, not liking big parties, but nothing was spared for the Queen. Most people at the party avoided him no one wanted to get too close to the dark jewelled Warlord Prince, but Marcos was okay with this. He spent most of his time watching Laine making sure she was okay.

It was why, he noticed so quickly that she had gone missing. He watched her slip out of the room and waited only a few minutes before following her. It was her party, and he wanted to make sure that she was okay. Regardless of everything, Melaine was his number one priority. He watched her as she slipped into another room, she shut the door behind her, so Marcos knocked once before letting himself in. As she turned to face him Marcos could tell that her cheeks were flushed and he wondered why, he knew she had been drinking, but it could also have been from the heat of the room. "I hope you don't mind... but I just wanted to make sure you were okay."

Even as he spoke, Marcos knew that his answer wasn't ideal, but he wouldn't lie to his Queen, not again. He had always thought that honesty was the way to go but he had been so worried about Laine being terrified of him that he had decided to keep his descent from her. It had just seemed like the right decision at the time, and he HAD meant to tell her sooner, but the timing just never seemed right.

Of course the timing would never haven seemed right, but there was nothing he could do about that now. All he could do was do his best to make it up to his Queen. So far, that had been keeping his space, which had been hard enough. Each day had seemed to drag by, and Marcos could swear that he had been counting the hours since their last conversation. Of course, he hadn't actually but he knew exactly how many days it had been. It had been far too long.

But Marcos would do anything to make it up to Melaine, and if they meant not talking, he would do that. He did have some company though. Almost right away Marcos had taken a liking to Laine's niece, and with Marcos and Laine not talking, she had been pulling him away more often. Marcos was wary at first, knowing that Leo would likely be nervous about it all, but Marcos found it hard to resist the little girls charm. He also had other things to focus on, such as rebuilding, but no matter what he did Marcos couldn't help but think about Laine. He knew he had cared for her, but he hadn't realized just how much he had cared for her until all of this had happened.

So it made Marcos hopeful, now that Laine was talking to him. Yes, the conversation was not deep, but it was a start. He was glad to hear that she was doing good though, he couldn't handle it if she had suffered in some other way. He knew that it wasn't easy becoming the Territory Queen so young and he didn't want to make that any harder for her. "Are you any closer to finding a Seer?" He knew she had not found the right Seer yet, but he was hoping she would find one soon. It was important to have a court, especially as the Territory Queen. "I wish I could be of some help, but I know you will find the right one." He was confident in her, Marcous would have served her because he was bound to her, but since coming to know her, he had seen all of the qualities in her that made her a good Queen.

don't let me die here

As he finished explaining how to lay the bricks Marcos had honestly been expecting Melaine to just focus on her work and ignore him. He couldn't blame her, not really. He knew now how he had hurt her. Of course he had kept the secrets for his own reasoning, his past working against him, but he realized his mistake now. Melaine was his Queen and he should have been up front with her right away.

But he couldn't change the past now, all he could do was try to make amends and hope that the Darkness would be grateful and Melaine would forgive him. He wouldn't be surprised if she never forgave him, if seemed like the type of cruel joke that would be played on him. Find his Queen, finally start to feel like he had a home, only to have it all ripped out of his grip. Yes, that fit perfectly with the story that was his life.

But now wasn't the time or place to focus on everything that was wrong with his life. If he wanted things to improve he should think positive, even if it was hard. But Marcos had spent his life living through hard situations, and they just seemed to keep getting worse. Maybe he caused the trouble himself, no one else seemed to go through everything he had. He didn't like to think he was the type of person that created drama, or enjoyed hardship but looking back on his life it was hard not to admit that trouble and drama seemed to follow him around.

He had been focusing on laying the bricks in front of him, but it was hard with Melaine so close. It felt like it had been so long since he had been this close to her and he wanted to savour every moment, he wasn't sure when she would let him this close again. He watched her out of the corner of his eye, just wanting these moments to last. Even with everything going on between them, it was soothing having her so close, she was after all still his Queen.

But it was also hard, he knew how she felt and as much as he wanted and needed to be soothed by her, it wasn't something she could do right now. Taking a deep breath Marcos tried to calm himself, now was not the time or place to loose his control, there were far too many people around.

But when Melaine broke the silence, Marcos looked up at her. He was confused, but his face didn't show it. Was she starting to forgive him? Or was this for appearances? He didn't know exactly who knew about them, and he wasn't sure how many people she would want to know. Because as much as he liked her, Marcos knew his jewels gave him some political sway. No one wanted to offend a Ebon-Gray Warlord Prince. Trying to soften his face, he replied, his voice soft "I've been ok." As much as he wanted to say more, he didn't want to make her feel any worse "How have you been?" He wanted to know, he wanted to know everything that had happened to her since he had last talked to her, but he didn't think she would give that information up.

Well, Melaine really wasn't saying much, but at least she was talking to him. Marcos knew just how badly he had messed up, and he wished he could change it. He wished more than anything that he could change it. He knew that Laine had been scared of him at first, which was perfectly understandable, but how much would have changed if he had told her sooner? Recently they had been getting closer and Marcos knew he was developing feelings towards her, that wouldn't have changed, but if Laine had known all along that he wore an Ebon-Gray would she have ever seen him as more than the dark jewelled Warlord Prince?

He knew now that him having such a dark Jewel wouldn't have changed things, sure if might have taken longer for her to adjust to him but he would take that over their current situation. He couldn't stand seeing her stand there and look at him, hurt. He knew he would have to get over it, eventually. She had asked for space and he was doing his best to give her that, but if space didn't help then he would just have to accept whatever her decision was. It would, of course, make things between them so much harder but Marcos cared for her and he would live through it for her.

Turning his focus to the wall Marcos grabbed an extra tool for Laine, using craft to float them in between them so that they didn't have to bend down and pick them up. "It's not a hard job, just repetitive." Grabbing a brick, Marcos started laying it, taking his time and explaining each step to Melaine. He glanced at her face a few times, but her face had gone serious and Marcos knew she was focusing on something. What he wouldn't do to see her smile once again. He couldn't believe how much he missed her smile, it was strange how you only realized how much you missed something once it was gone. But he still had hope that they could get back to that place some day. It wouldn't be an easy road but it was one he was more than willing to travel.

As he finished his explanation, he looked back at her "That's the very basics of it. Any questions?" Marcos had never had to explain such a job to someone, so he was hoping he had done a good job explaining things. It might take her a few tries to get into a pattern but Marcos knew that she would be able to do this job.

Marcos watched Lanie carefully as he spoke, there was so much that he wanted to say to her, but he had said everything he could and now it was a waiting game. They hadn't talked since he told her about his Ebon-Gray Jewel, he hadn't even told anyone else about their conversation yet, but he was guessing he had. Her brothers and cousins had been treating him different. He suspected they weren't overly impressed with him for hiding that fact from her, and Marcos couldn't blame them for it. If his sister had been in the same position he imagined he wouldn't have been impressed either.

But he had made his bed and now he had to lie in it. He hoped that the space would give her time to start to heal then Marcos could work towards gaining her trust again, because there was nothing he wouldn't do for her. When Laine realized who she was talking to, Marcos couldn't help but notice the small frown that rested on her face for mere seconds. It felt like it had been a long time since their talk, but obviously Laine still needed more time. He couldn't help but feel like more weight had been dropped on his shoulders. He was responsible for this and he hated seeing her in such a mood. She, like himself, had lost the chance to be carefree at a young age but she didn't deserve what he had done to her.

He would just have to make it up to her, he wouldn't give himself any other choice. Turning back to look at the work they were doing, Marcos thought for a moment, trying to decide what job to give her. He didn't want to give her anything too easy, but he didn't want to give her the hardest job. Of course he could always use his jewels to help her out and none would be the wiser, but he didn't want to tread down that path yet. He suspected if he did that and somehow she did find out what he had done he would have been in even more trouble than he was now. "We are just working on redoing the bricks on this wall, you could come help us there." Marcos gestured to a wall that they had just starting working on. It wasn't the more thrilling job but he didn't think it would be too easy or too hard, a nice medium.

Heading over the to wall, Marcos leaned down to grab a brick, "Have you ever done this before?" He didn't think that Laine would have any experience building walls, but he wasn't going to assume. He had assumed she would have feared him over his jewel and he hadn't been right there, so he had learned his lesson.

For once in his life, Marcos could say he actually had no idea how long it had been since he had told Melaine about his Ebon-Gray Jewel. He knew that he needed to give Melaine her space, and that was exactly what he had intended to do. He wouldn't push her, he couldn't, he was far to worried about loosing her. Loosing Melaine was his greatest fear, he had been lucky to find his Queen and he honestly had no idea what he would do without her now.

Thankfully, after the war there was plenty of work to be done and Marcos had both the physical strength and the Jewel capacity to help out. Marcos had been working in a certain area for the past few days, repairing one of the walls. He tried to refrain from using his Jewels, although most people in the Court had gotten use to his Red, it still made most people uncomfortable, plus all the physical activity helped him work through his anger at himself. He should have trusted her. But there was no going back now and Marcos had to live with the decisions he had made.

Marcos had been so absorbed in his work that he didn't even sense when that Melaine was close, he actually had no idea that Melaine was so close until he heard her voice behind her. Marcos whipped around, coming face to face with the last person he was expecting to see, Melaine. His eyes widened in shock, for a brief moment before he regained his composure. "Lady Melanie" He paused for a moment, not sure exactly what to say to her. Their last conversation had not gone so well, and he didn't want to seem like he was pushing her. "We've just been rebuilding this wall, I'm sure that there is something you can do.. is there anything in particular you'd like to do?" He wasn't sure what to say to her, but he didn't want to make things worse between them.

It was times like this where Marcos truly wished he couldn't feel what Melaine was feeling. He had never wished this before but even though he was sure she was trying to hide some of her feelings from him, there was still a trickle coming through the bond. But he was sure that she could also feel what he was feeling, even though she was trying to shield that from her as well. It was, in this case, a curse of their bond.

But he couldn't do anything about it, and focusing on that was not helping the situation. He had faced his actions, and now he had to deal with the consequences, no matter what they were. Marcos was glad that Melaine hadn't sent him away right away, he would take that as a good sign. It she wanted him gone, he had no doubts that she would have ordered him away. Maybe, just maybe they could work through this. It just seemed to be more of a waiting game than anything at this point.

Marcos took a small step away from Melaine, wanting to give her her space, he didn't want to seem overbearing. If it was just time she needed, he would give that to her. It may not be easy but he would do it. She was his Queen and he didn't want to loose her, and more than that, Marcos knew he was starting to care for her more than a Warlord Prince cared for his Queen. He was falling for her. There was no denying it anymore. Letting out a breath he hadn't even realized he had been holding, Marcos clenched his fist at his side, if was hard to not reach out and touch her, he wanted the comfort of his Queen, but he didn't want to push her. "I understand." His words were quiet and soft. Looking up at her face, Marcos let his gaze sit there a moment before dropping his head "I will leave if you wish to be alone." He had said a lot and he wasn't sure if he was the person she wished to see right now.

Even as she spoke the last of his words Marcos could tell that Melaine was upset, and her response only solidifed that. If felt as though she had wanted to same something else or more but had refrained. And he understood her position, had the situations been reversed he would have felt the same way.

The lack of any words she had hurt Marcos he knew he had damaged their relationship and it was entirely his fault, he just hoped that he could repair the damage. Putting the necklace back on Marcos hid his Jewel beneath his shirt once more before stepping towards her, squatting so he was closer to her eye level. Although he had broken her trust he feel incredibly guilty over it, she was still his Queen and even being close to her calmed him.

"I know that by keeping this from you I've probably lost your trust, but i hope you give me the chance to rebuild it. Before I wore the Ebon-Gray I watched people who I cared for walk away from me, scared. So when I met you and we bonded I couldn't bear the thought of not being at your side. I was worried you would fear me and turn me away. I know now that all those fears were unfounded, and I should have told you long ago.. I just didn't have the strength...I really am sorry. I understand if you can't forgive me right away, if at all.." He fought any urge to reach out amid touch her, as much as he knew that would soothe him even further, he had just lost her trust and he didn't want to push her. "I'll understand if you want me to leave..."

Just seeing Melaine Marcos felt both anxious and relaxed. He knew that telling her about his Jewel would not be easy but being around Melaine seemed to calm him. Part of it he attributed to the bond, as that was when it started, but longer he was around her, the more of an effect she had on him. But the longer he was around Melaine the stronger his feelings got towards her, and he had no idea if it was the bond or not. This was all still new to him, and this was something he was not exactly comfortable going to someone else with, so for now he would have to struggle through it until he could figure it out. He knew she would be able to sense some of his emotions through the bond, just as he could feel hers, so he tried to calm himself. Not that it did much, he knew that the only thing that would make him feel better would be telling her the truth. Crossing the distance between them, Marcos took her arm, wanting to smile but he wasn't able too. "That sounds great, thank you." He nodded towards the door to her garden, waiting a moment before opening the door and leading her out. He knew he should say something, but he wasn't sure on what to say. There was plenty that he could say, but he was so caught up over what he wanted to say to her that anything else would have seemed fake to him, he didn't want to hide this from her for any longer.

He continued to walk until he spotted a bench. He led them to it, before asking her if she would like to sit. They were in a private area, about as private as they would get around here anyway, but still Marcos drew on his Red to create a sound shield around them. No one around had a Red Jewel, so he knew he didn't need to use his Ebon Gray. He dropped her arm, taking a small step away, running his hand along the side of his hand. He knew what he wanted to say, it was just crossing that barrier. "I need to tell you something..." he paused taking a deep breath before continuing."You know how I received a Red at my birthright ceremony... and I did, but at my offering I didn't walk away with a Red." He had started pacing slightly, but now he turned to look at her. She had gotten use to his Red Jewel eventually, and he had hopes that she would get use to the Ebon Gray, but he didn't know, and he wanted to see her reaction, whether it be good or bad. Raising his hand up to his neck, Marcos undid the necklace that was always there, pulling it out from under his shirt. At the bottom of the chain, was his Ebon Gray Jewel. Gathering the chain and Jewel he collected it in his hand, moving his arm slightly towards Melaine. He didn't want to force her to look at it, but saying it just felt weird. "I came away with a Ebon Gray. I never told anyone about it. My parents feared me even while I still wore the Red, and friends were rare to find, so when I saw the Ebon Gray I decided to hide it from everyone. I didn't want to loose any more friends or family, I was already a burden on them and I didn't want to make it harder on them. I know I should have told you, and there are no reasonable excuses for keeping this from you, but I didn't want you to fear me for my Jewels. I knew from the moment I laid eyes on you that you were my Queen, and from prior experiences, I feared that somehow knowing my true strength would make you fear me.". Marcos paused for a moment, keeping his arm slightly raised. "There is no excuse for lying to you, but I couldn't, can't stand the thought of not being at your side. I'm sorry Melaine, I am." He knew he had been rambling, but he couldn't help it, there was so much he wanted to say to her, but he had said everything he could for now, he only hoped she could forgive him.

It was hard for Marcos to not do something with his hands as he headed towards Melaine. With the depth of his Jewels and their bond he could easily sense where she was. He had been in her Court long enough and now that she was the Territory Queen, she had a right to know exactly what he wore. Marcos had never told anyone about the Ebon Gray Jewel he wore, people were scared enough of his Red, but he knew this day would have come eventually, he had just hoped it would have been later rather than sooner.

Pulling his hands around his back, he clasped them, so that he wouldn't have play with them. The last thing he wanted was to appear nervous in front of her. The closer he got to her, the more he sensed through the bond, she seemed to be calm, which was good, but he also didn't sense anyone else around her. That was fairly rare, having a few heartbound males and her court, there always seemed to be someone around her.

As he reached her door, he stopped, taking a few deep breaths to calm himself. He knew he was on edge, and depending on how this conversation went, being on edge would be the last thing he needed.
