The childish giggles that rang through her home brought a sweet and gentle smile to the lips of the woman in the kitchen. Her Vanya. Precious and sweet, queen scent strong on that toddling little girl. Leas' pride. Her joy. It didn't matter what her jewel strength was, Leas would tear the world apart to protect that precious child of hers. That little girl with Bannick's eyes. Leas loved that child far more than she did anyone else in her life, her foolish husband included.

She knew her queen would help her if she asked, Sorcha was always connected to her. From the Darkness they were connected. Leas would serve her until she could not and Sorcha would be the better for it. And she would wait for the Red Queen to come to her with the whispers from the Darkness. Leas herself could not interfere. Could not speed things along. All things in good time.

Another shout of laughter and Leas shook her head where she washed what little dishes they possessed. She was wife to a powerful warlord prince and priestess to the territory queen but they lived simply. She didn't and wouldn't want it any other way. Leave the impulsivity and need to the rest of the wives, Leas was content as she was. A giggle and gentle probes sent out to sweep her daughter, the girl who helped out around her home seen and ignored. Her child's happiness was apparent and the psychic feel of another person had her moving.

Wiping her hands clean, the smile on her face grew until she was certain her cheeks would burst with it. She knew that touch. Knew that power. Knew that love. Stepping into the main living area she called, "Bannick! When did you get in? I see you have given all your affection to this terrible little girl but where is a kiss for your wife?" Her daughter squealed her mock outrage at Leas' jest as she moved to shelter both of them in her peace.

He came in quiet. Boots left outside the front door. Probes careful as he checked to see who was in his wife’s house. Knew she kept a girl to help with the cleaning. That was all he found. Hints of the girl and the potent touch of his woman and their child. Vanya found him first. Bannick pressed a finger to his lips so she would not summon her mother.

Just a few minutes to himself, bouncing the small girl and talking quiet to her. She didn’t make much sense, but Bannick listened gravely. Figured whatever she had to say was important. Even if he couldn’t understand it. Vanya didn’t stay quiet long, of course. Small children rarely did. Especially when their father’s lifted them high and put them in the spread of their antlers.

”Just now.” He lied with a toothy grin, holding tight to Vanya so she didn’t fall. Clever fingers making her laugh as they wiggled against her sides. ”She climbed right up, all on her own.” More squealing. Bannick laughed, leaning down to kiss his wife. His lips settled on her forehead, nose in her hair as he breathed in the scent of her.

”If you climb right up, I will have kisses for you too.” He rumbled. He swung Vanya down from his antlers and handed her over to Leas. ”I brought you this.” Arm circling her waist and dragging both of them close. Nose pressed to Leas’ temple. He stroked the small of her back and curve of her hip. ”How have you been, wife?” He asked. Bannick worried with her on her own. But that was fight he’d already lost.

He would try again later.

Hands curved on her hips as she shook her head at him, "Lies are not your forte, Bannick." She laughed he made her daughter giggle with his tickles. Dark jewels and caste did not make Bannick any less of a father, did not make him any less loving. He just loved in different ways. Leas had long since come to accept the fact that her husband had so much love to give it could not be contained to one person. She knew his love could burn her up if it was focused only on her. Better for the wives that there was more than one.

"She is a monkey instead of Cervini," she chuckled as he leaned down to place a kiss on her forehead. She moved into his grasp easily and without hurry. There would be time for hurry later, "Strong as you are, husband, I don't think they will hold me." She leaned her face up for more kisses, placing her own against soft lips. There were parts of Bannick that were soft and she always enjoyed his mouth the most. In any action it took.

"I'm not sure this gift is the best one," she took the offering and gave Vanya a tickle of her own, "But I suppose she'll do." She gave the girl a nuzzle and a kiss, blowing a raspberry against her neck. Childish laughter filled the house again and was matched by the deeper laughter of Leas. Body leaned into his, tingles where his finger stroked filling her mind with naughty thoughts and Leas curled her empty arm around his back. Vanya shifted against her hip as her mother settled into the comfort of his presence.

"I am well," she told him truthfully, "Sorcha has not had need of me these few days and I will remain home for a while. And you my husband? You are well? Harrow is not sending you out on foolish missions?" She did not mind his queen, understood his need for a Queen of his own choosing, but she could be the worried wife if she wanted. He worried for her alone with only Solace to protect her, it only served him right if she worried for him as well.

”That is why I never lie.” He lied, enjoying the way she laughed and Vanya’s giggling. It was a happy home. He just wished it was a closer one. Preferably in the big house he had built for his wives. But two of them were too stubborn to live in his house. Leas reckoned herself too busy, and Steadfast too bitter. One day he hoped it would change.

”She is perfect.” He assured them both. Leas leaned in to him. A soft sort of eagerness to be by his side and in his embrace. Bannick appreciated the way she took her place there, with confidence and grace. Leas knew where she belonged. Eventually she would realize that she would always be beside him in his house. ”Why not try and find out?” He rumbled, the sound growing deeper as their lips found each other. Sweet woman. She had a good mouth, kind and soft.

”Not sure?!” He laughed, trying to pretend offense on Vanya’s behalf. They all laughed. Leas causing the girl to squeal with her tickling. Bannick closed his eyes over the top of Leas head, resting his chin against her hair. This was good. Woman and child tucked close. Bannick breathed them both in. His. Safe. Sighing, he kissed the place his chin had been and gave Leas bottom a pat before sweeping Vanya from her arms and heading into the kitchen.

”How can she have no need of you? Perhaps you should come home with me.” Shameless. What did he care about Sorcha? Leas should he in his house, not unappreciated by the hornless queen. In the kitchen he sat Vanya in a chair and began looking for food. He was sure the girl needed a snack. And possibly a nap. He would take her out later to play in the leaves.

”I have been well, wife.” Bannick cast a wry glance over his shoulder while he set a plate on the counter. ”Harrow has never sent me out on a foolish mission, well you know. She has reason for everything.” Even when they were reasons he did not or could not agree with. There had been times he had to admit being blind to what she had seen, but there were others the questions weighed heavy on his heart.

”Ah. Look, fruit salad. Who is hungry?” Mostly he was trying to tempt Vanya, but he liked to see Leas fed as well. And his own stomach filled whenever it could be.

"The same way you have no need of me all the time," she chuckled as she tweaked his ear and kissed his cheek and followed him into the kitchen. She watched with sparkling eyes as he settled about finding his daughter food, always so precious with their spawn it made Leas love him even more than she had before. Vanya kicked her legs as her father set her in the chair and babbled nonsense as her fierce father found her food. Both females could appreciate the males need to care for them, Leas more so than their daughter and it made the little priestess glow with her happiness.

"Of course she has reason for everything," Lease agreed carefully. She did not always agree with those reasons but she would not argue with her husband about the merits of his dark jeweled Queen. That would be a fight neither would win, loyalties in two different courts. Leas was serene in her loyalty, knowledge that Sorcha had been the better choice giving it to her. "Queens never do things without reason," she continued and moved further into the kitchen, "I simply worry for your well being, my darling, nothing more."

Ever diplomatic Leas quickly moved the conversation away from a potential fight. "The bottomless pit we call a daughter is always hungry," she laughed as the tiny girl punctuated Leas' words with a squeal of her own. Small grubby hands making "gimme" motions and Leas laughed again at the antics of her headstrong girl. She sat herself beside Vanya to ensure more fruit than not made it in the girl, she gazed at her husband with dark eyes.

Eyes that surveyed. Eyes that took in the small details. The tiredness that might be mistaken for other things. Were those worry lines? Something to tell her that he needed to be pet by more than just a headstrong queen? Leas always worried Harrow would point her deadly husband in a direction he could not come back from and her hand sought his blindly. "I have missed you husband," she said softly, "Kiss me again and remind me you are here."

To often Leas had sought the Darkness of late and she had forgotten the brightness of the world at times. Reminders and love was what she needed now.

"That is a lie." Parting was nothing something he ever did with willingness, only necessity. Bannick would have preferred to have them all in one place. Together where he could protect them all. See them each every day rather than wasting what precious time they had together traveling between them when he wasn't traveling for his queen.

He only had so many years to love them with.

Nodding, Bannick agreed. Queens always had reasons. They just weren't always good ones. He never spoke his doubts out loud to anyone but Harrow herself, and then always in private. He knew it went poorly if he challenged her in public. It still happened on occasion. She was young and full of greed and spite. Bannick served without love to balance the faults he found in his queen. Just a warlord prince's possessiveness to make him able to forgive.

"And I yours. Out here alone, with this queen who forgets to need you always, as I do." He grinned at her over his shoulder. Only half serious. He always needed her. And always, always worried. But he did not think her queen poorly chosen. Just hornless. It was not the same. A difference in fundamental understanding. But that was an old argument between them and Bannick had not come to argue.

He arranged food for his girl, who kicked and squealed. Happily making noise as she waited in her chair, Leas sitting to join her at the table, so Bannick put fruit in a bowl for her as well. Bring it to the table and making a cozy circle of bodies. Fingers eager to curl with Leas' as she reached for him. "Eat, both of you." Playfully stern eye turned on Vanya. Something gentle for his wife. Bowl pushed toward the girl while he leaned in to kiss her mother. Lips firm and comforting against hers.

"I am here whenever you need me, love." That he missed her was given. Little pieces of his heart he gave away. Living with half his soul exposed in other people. Bannick kissed her again, hand cupping her shoulder, tongue tasting her lips. "Eat." He whispered against them, petting her upward so he could stroke her cheek.
