The Races
of Witchlight

Landen
The landen make up the majority of the population. These humans do not wear Jewels and have no access to Craft. With no barriers, the landen are defenseless against Craft. There are customarily laws against the use of Craft, healing exempt, against landen for this very reason. Not all territories ascribe to these customs, however.

Most landen live in their own villages, separate from the Blood. They are farmers and skilled craftsmen. In more recent years, landen transportation businesses have grown due to the instability of the Winds. Some Territories have Landen Councils, allowing the non-Blood to bring their problems to the ruling Queens (or Warlord Princes).

The average landen lifespan is 80 years.

The Blood
The Blood are a race of humans with access to Craft. However, not all Blood wear Jewels. They are the humans touched by the passing magic of the dragons when they left the waking world to slumber elsewhere.

The majority of the Blood are Jeweless, simply referred to as Blood male or Blood female. They have weak barriers and the ability to use some basic Craft, but nothing at all like those who are gifted with Jewels. They have no Caste, no psychic cabinet and can only answer psychic threads, not initiate them.

More powerful, but less numerous, are the Jeweled Blood: those blessed by the Darkness with Jewels. Their strength is dependent on their Jewel, and their lifespan on their race. The Jeweled Blood have inner and outer barriers to protect themselves against Craft and the emotions of other Blood. Most have a Caste, and Castes are the same across all of the Jeweled Blood, no matter their race.

Kindred
The Blood of the animal Realm. The Kindred are made up of many species. Most of their Territories are in Kaeleer, but there are those Kindred who roam freely, especially in Terreille, who call no one place home, but view everything as theirs. Especially specific humans.

The most commonly known Kindred race are the Scelties. Some think that Scelties are the only Kindred race in Kaeleer, and that all others are just myth. But that does not account for the Territories that are fiercely guarded, such as Arachna, Arceria, the Fyreborn Islands, and Sceval.

Humanoids
Also Blood, but neither Human nor Kindred, the humanoid races of Kaeleer are probably the most elusive. They are the Tigres of Tigrelan, the Centaurs of Centauran, the Satyrs of Pandar, and the Pixies of Philan.

These races also have their share of landen folk and Blood; those who wear Jewels, and those who do not. Their Castes are the same as those seen in Human and Kindred Blood.
