A pleasure to meet you
« on: October 24, 2018, 04:22:12 AM »

Aberdeen poured great big mugs of steaming tea. No delicate porcelain for this job, she used the thick, heavy mugs her village drank from. Hot tea thick with cream and sugar, black coffee spiced with liquor. Things that made a body warm out on the ice flows. Which is where this one looked like she had come from, wandering in from Darkness only knew where.

They had sent Aberdeen because she was the most welcoming in a way that was not overtly sexual. ‘Cheerful’ Olya had called it, the twist of her brow evident her conflict over whether or not it was a good thing. Aberdeen did not mind in the least. Sometimes cheerful was just what a body needed, that and a good cup of vodka laced tea.

”There is cream and sugar if you like, but either way that’ll warm you quick.” The House was a pleasant one, if a bit worn around the edges. All the wood rubbed smooth and glossy, same as the rugs. Only the bedding was ever new, since that was where most of the business was some anyway. It wasn’t a House of fancy parties or high polish, but it was clean and did steady business.

Hair braided around her crown, a simple dress to house her body, Aberdeen looked their new guest over. She didn’t seem the sort to visit for the pleasure. She had that ragged look travelers got, even when they didn’t go far. Aberdeen thought it had something to do with not having a home, or being far from it. But there wasn’t something else she couldn’t quite put her finger on and it made her curious.

”What brings you to Meols?” She asked in the artless way of disinterested people. Noise to fill the space because the answer could be assumed. The festival was just days away. There would be blood letting and all manner of celebrations. Meols was teaming with life and fit near to bursting with people. Poor chit probably couldn’t have found an inn that didn’t have fleas. And maybe not one that did.

She smelled, she was dirty and she sat in a moon house sipping tea from heavy mugs. Not exactly what Thyra had expected when she’d been shown into this room. She’d expected the pretty and delicate tea settings, she’d expected the tea though she would have prefered mead. But the mugs. The mugs were not quite what she’d imagined. Not that she wouldn’t have been uncomfortable with easily broken cups. She would have been and more than likely would have broken something. Just as well they gave her the ugliest set of mugs to sip tea from.

She hissed lightly at the bite of vodka in the tea. It gave the drink a pleasant smack and Thyra could feel the warmth spreading through her limbs. She looked at the woman in front of her and was horribly aware of the mess that was her thick black hair and the dirt that smudged her cheeks. Normally she wasn’t one to care much but she’d travelled hard to get home to Glacia, a weirdly urgent need to get there riding her hard the entire way.

She’d chalk it up to the festivals that would soon be bringing the lights and cheer to the territory. Full lips smacked lightly as she sucked the tea from them and Thyra sat back with a quiet grin on her face, “The adventure of course. And what is more adventurous than a House of such repute?” It was said with a considerable amount of cheek and truth. She’d never given herself over to a House before and she was hedonistic enough to enjoy the experience.

“Might as well catch a bath, hot food, and make a few marks to set me on my way,” she said with a slight hardening of the grin. She sipped the tea and shifted lightly. She acutely felt the loss of her sword, the weapon had become such a part of her that Thyra felt incomplete without it. She covered her unease by leaning back in her chair, mug clenched in her hand and her grin firmly in place. “Have you got a temporary place for me?”

Aberdeen laughed. It was a nice laugh, warm without being too loud, and not a hint of mocking in it. She swirled her tea and took a quick drink before answering. ”I’m not sure a reputation of adventure is what one would want for their House.” She giggled around the brim of her cup and licked a drop of quivering from it. ”Makes me imagine we’re galloping the halls on ponies.” Or more wicked things.

At least the girl wasn’t the wilting sort. Aberdeen guessed rough travel, which is looked like she’d been doing, worked the wilt out of a person. She never had been very good with the easily distressed sort of women. She could calm them, of course, and please them same as anyone else, but it always left her feeling a little worn after in a way that was different with other people.

”A good order for such things.” Aberdeen agreed, eyes softening at the change in the witch’s expression. What made a woman fierce like that? Aberdeen herself was about as fierce as a wet kitten. She couldn’t even pretend it well, so clients who needed a firmer hand went to other girls. ”I think we can offer you up all those things.” She had a nice look with her thick black braid. It needed some white flowers woven into it. Or red. Yes. She would do nicely.

”I’m Aberdeen. I can’t speak for the Madam, but she’s usually accommodating.” Head tipping, she smiled. She would wash her up first and then take her to see the lady of the house. ”What’s your name, love? And wherever did you come from?” She slid the plate of sugared cookies over. Not too rich to disturb an empty stomach.

"And why not?" she laughed. A laugh set to match Aberdeen's, "Isn't vice and sin as much an adventure as traveling across the country?" Thyra had a pretty clear picture of what adventure could be. Whether it was trekking halfway across her homeland in search of a good time or sitting in an opulent - or mostly opulent - red moon house, an adventure was an adventure. "Well, I suppose galloping around the halls on ponies could be a good adventure," she laughed again mind already imagining the ponies that might show up.

It took a lot of self-control for Thyra not to heave a giant sigh of relief when Aberdeen agreed that they might be able to offer up all that she had listed. The bath was first and foremost her most wanted thing. Probably needed too, Thyra was still not naive to the fact that she probably stank to high heaven. But weeks of travel did that to a girl. "Good to know," she answered and grimaced unto her cup of vodka laced tea. She hadn't given a second thought to the madam and how that particular woman would be a necessary component in her plans.

Thyra didn't possess the necessary personality type or care to blush at the appraising look Aberdeen gave her and her hair. If anything she could feel the ridiculous amounts of pride and ego she possessed to raise its ugly head. She wasn't breath stopping beautiful but she wasn't ugly either and her hair was the most prized thing she liked about herself. It was a wealth of black, thick and luxurious when it was clean. Oh no, Thyra did not mind the look in the least.

"Thyra," she gave a tilt of her chin, "Here and there, Sor originally. Been told I was born up on the Arcerian border. Lovely place that." It was a bit bitter and Thyra's lips tilted down in a frown as she sipped at her tea again. "Anyway, you'll have me then? If the madam agrees?" She desparately wanted that bath.
