Tobias grinned at her. ”Hearth witches have nothing on Princes when it comes to cleaning,” he said with a wink. ”We’re just like cats.” He cleaned up after himself at home… mostly. Maybe he hired someone to do the lion’s share of the work, but he was a busy man. He didn’t leave the place a total disaster area, but he did make sure the Landen had plenty to do.

”I don’t know about ‘more so,’” he said thoughtfully. ”I mean, without them, you wouldn’t have books to get all intimate with.” Another man might’ve blushed, but his grin only grew wider. ”You’ve listened?” he preened. ”And you’ve seen me naked. Careful, Irja. People might start thinking you like me or something.” He stopped with the chair, even though he rolled his eyes at her.

He glanced up at Ares, appreciatively appraising him. He’d worked through all the workers at the Red Star, and while the women were his favorites… he wasn’t one to turn down an experience out of prudishness. The Star had too much to offer for him to be choosy.

"It could be that sort of wood, though." He smirked up at Ares.

“Hmm… and I’m sure you graciously allow us to do it so we’ll feel better about ourselves.” She said, shaking her head and reaching for the door again to let the cat back in once again. Why the little furball was always this indecisive in the morning she didn’t know. She could only assume it had something to do with all the lingering psychic scents that he had to pick up on in someway, because as soon as she cleansed the house, he was perfectly content to sleep in the windowsill for hours.

“Unlike you and your cousin, we have plenty of people who don’t come here just for sex.” She said. The Red Star did have some very particular specialists on the books, after all, and people travelled far for Marcella’s ropes, or Einar’s knives, and … Ares, being Ares. She smiled up at the taller man, who practically dwarved Tobias with his willowy length.

He took the coffee from her, brushing the sleek black hair out of his face before taking a big gulp. He glanced at Tobias, with the skeptical judgmental look only Ares could muster up. It didn't help that Tobias had to be a wise-ass and bring the attention right back to his penis, even after she had just graciously diverted it for him.

He’d never learn.

Ares sized Tobias up like a snake did it's prey before swallowing it whole.
“You’ll need to pay me first, boy.” Ares said gruffly -- he always needed a while to get his game face on. Literally and figuratively. He was not a morning person at all.
At least he’d stopped asking her why Tobias was there, while Tobias was sitting less than a foot away from them.

"And probably let him finish his coffee." Irja offered helpfully, petting Ares on his shoulder, who only raised the cup of coffee to her before slumping in a chair at the kitchen table -- legs spread wide, the robe pooling between them to exposed those shapely long legs.

”Exactly!” Tobias said, beaming at her. ”See? You understand.” He watched her open the door again for the cat. ”You know there are things you can put in that let cats let themselves in and out, right?” he pointed out. ”Unless you like being the furball’s loyal slave.”

”I feel like I’m being insulted,” Tobias grumbled. ”I’m a healthy male. Of course I want sex.” And maybe he was slightly intimidated by the idea of some of the other things she had to offer there… not that he’d admit it. ”Besides, every time I try to go for someone who’s known for other things, they’re magically unavailable.” He eyed her. He might be drunk half the time he was there, but he’d seen enough of a pattern. He wasn’t totally empty between the ears.

If Ares hadn’t been a Warlord Prince, it would’ve been easier to dismiss that look, but he was, and it was all Tobias could do to meet his eyes with the most charming smile he could muster. He was opening his mouth to say something when Irja suggested that he let the man have his coffee, and for once, he shrugged and let it go. He went back to his own cup, but his eyes lingered on Ares for a long, thoughtful moment. ”What do—” He caught himself before he could finish asking the question, swallowing a big gulp of coffee. ”Irja, you need anything from me today? Besides my company, of course.”

Irja glanced at the cat and shrugged.
“He’s less demanding than most of the people who just barge in on me.” She said, not naming any names, but they both knew who she was talking about -- or at least she hoped he had enough self-awareness to realize that he always managed to occupy more of her time than almost anyone else.

“I wasn’t trying to insult,” Irja assured him sweetly, topping his coffee up to smooth over his ruffled feathers. “But I do try to run a versatile, classy Red Moon house. You can get your dick wet on any street corner.” She explained casually, and Ares raised his cup to her again.
“Hear hear.” He said blandly, reaching for toast and the jar of honey.
“And,” Irja shrugged, all innocence. “Our specialists are in high demand, but if you’re that keen, we can book something further in advance, spare you the disappointment.” She offered. Ever helpful and ready with solutions to everyone’s problems.

Irja could see Tobias bite his tongue, instead of saying something snide to Ares. She was moderately impressed with his maturity. Moderately. It didn’t last too long though, as within a moment or two he opened his mouth again, and both Irja and Ares looked up at him, only to have him change his mind a second time in short order.

She likely shouldn’t feel proud of him, but part of her did anyway. She really would rather not had to put out a fire between the two men currently in her kitchen.
“Other than groceries?” She quipped. “No, nothing that I can think of.” Ares paused in the buttering of his toast, and glanced up at the both of them in question. Irja let him wonder in his broody silence.

”You break my heart, Irja,” Tobias pouted. ”And I don’t… barge in. I quietly and politely let myself in so you don’t have to put forth any extra effort.” Never mind that he knew she didn’t like him wandering in and out, but he did need to be able to get inside in a hurry if something wasn’t right… so there wasn’t much she could do but set alarms where he was concerned. He tried not to take advantage of it…

Much.

”Stars, Irja!” he said, and his surprise might have even been genuine. ”I’d never talk about just getting my dick wet with anyone here.” She’d slap him upside the head for one, and two, he’d gotten his dick wet in plenty of cheap whores over the years. He knew quality when he had it, and maybe there was a lot of self-interest in keeping the Red Star protected at a reasonable rate. The danishes and coffee helped, too…

”Maybe we should,” Tobias said boldly, though he wasn’t quite bold enough to cast a look at Ares. ”But y’know, I don’t even know what most of them do, except things you can’t get anywhere else. And really, Irja, you can’t,” he said earnestly. ”What you’ve got going here is amazing.” He waved a hand at Ares. ”You have the best people, even if they’re cranky before their coffee.” He offered his best dimpled smile.

He shrugged. ”All right. Well, I can’t wait around much longer for that asshole. Your folks spoil him rotten, Irja. He needs to be up and at ‘em!”

She cast him a sidelong look that she hoped spoke volumes as to how much extra effort he cost her. If he wasn’t so damn good at being notorious and hard-handed when he needed to be, she would’ve found a way to lock him out a long time ago.

“Good.” Ares responded dryly to Tobias’ offense. “Because we’re not that kind of establishment.” He reiterated Irja’s point more firmly. The man continued to slathered an obscene amount of honey on his buttered toast in a very deliberate fashion when the conversation turned to advance bookings, and Irja smiled at the way Tobias had to expend some effort to avoid Ares’ eyes.

The flattery was sweet, and finally he flattered the right things that would actually make her feel something other than annoyance, and the smile she turned on him then was bright.
“You flatter us, Tobias.” She said graciously, though Ares wasn’t as subtle -- half a cup of coffee wasn’t enough.
“Flattery will get you everywhere with our Irja.” He mused, earning himself a smack from her.

She sighed, but it wasn’t in genuine annoyance, as she opened a spearthread to Cassie, who had entertained Lucas for the remained of the night, telling her to kick Lucas out of her bed and send him on down.

“He should be down momentarily…” She promised Tobias.

”I know,” Tobias said with an earnest nod. ”And I correct anyone who thinks otherwise, trust me,” he reassured them both. He’d had a few… conversations with people who had gotten a bit big for their britches and saw the Star as an easy playground, but they hadn’t clung to those beliefs for long after he’d been finished with them.

Really, all it took was a pleasant smile… Mostly.

If flattery got someone everywhere with Irja, Tobias obviously hadn’t been trying very hard — because there was still one place he wanted to see, which was her private room. But she’d mentioned bloodying the sheets or something, and he hadn’t particularly wanted to push and find out just what she’d meant. It did make him wonder, though, if she had someone — a man or a woman to warm her bed when she got lonely. Because surely she had to be lonely? He knew better than to say that aloud.

He knew Irja had worked hard for the reputation of the place, and he knew the way to her heart was to flatter it — even more than her — but old habits died hard, and he still had some issues with remembering to keep his mouth shut. But he behaved, which he thought he deserved a great deal of credit for.

He flashed a grin at Irja. ”You’re the best.”

It was always interesting to see how different Tobias could behave when he tried, and sometimes Irja wished he could be genuine and earnest like this all the time. He was nice when he was being like this. She could understand the cocky playboy attitude had snuck up on him. It wasn’t like he had a need to be earnest or genuine in his line of work, but still…

“I know,” She said with a wry smile at him. “It’s what I do.” She added, sending a few more spear threads to various workers with overnighters who needed to make their exit before the day truly started.

“You boys behave, I’m going to start on the cleansing,” She said, pressing a kiss to Ares’ head and petting Tobias on the shoulder as she passed him on the way out.
“Let the cat out if he wants out…” She called back to the pair of them.
