Yuka Iceborne

The Basics

Full Name: Yuka Iceborne
Age: 60
Gender/Pronouns: Female (She/Her)

Ethnicity: Moidyn Varrey
Birthplace: Glacia
Current Location: Glacia
Profession: Tribe Healer

Caste: Healer
Birthright Jewel: Summer-sky (CUT 60)
Offering Jewel: Opal (CUT 54)

Face Claim: Shannon Baker

The Body

Height: 5í5Ē
Body Type: Athletic
Hair Color: Dark brown
Eye Color: Dark brown

Appearance:
Yuka appears maybe too serious for her apparent age, with her sometimes severe expression and down-turned lips. But though she is most often found with a frown on her lips, whether of unhappiness or simple determination, the Healer always has a smile for her patients, no matter how unaccustomed to the expression she seems.

Yuka tends to wear her long hair in two braids to keep it out of her way while working. Her thin but fit frame is usually covered by warm clothing that doesnít drape or get in the way of any emergency healings she might need to perform. Her day to day clothes are made of plain but sturdy cloth. Her overclothes are the one place she allows herself the luxury of patterns and colors.

As a seal, Yuka is on the lean side, with shades of gray starting dark on her back fading to near white on her belly. She has dark speckles scattered over her belly, edging up onto her sides. Her eyes are big and a brown of the same shade as that of her human form.

The Mind

Craft Strengths: 15pts
Heating & Cooling Spells
Calming Spells
Healing Webs
Craft Healing
Diagnostic Sight
Craft Weaknesses: Yuka struggles with Physical and Combat Craft, and while she is able to manifest shields, they are flimsy at best. Her muddled memories and uncertainty have given her a weakness against Psychic Wounding.

Personality:
Yuka is a driven, determined and often bull-headed young woman. Her determination to be of use to the tribe sometimes causes her to overestimate her own endurance, though sheís careful to keep any negative consequences limited to herself as much as she can. She rarely smiles around those she doesnít know well and usually comes across as quiet and stoic, but in truth, she feels things very strongly.

Being taken in by the tribe, being different from other members of the tribe, caused Yuka to hide most of her emotions behind a serious mask so that she causes the least amount of trouble for others as possible. She is irrationally afraid of being left behind by the people she considers to be family.

Behind her often frowning facade, Yuka is a kind young woman, and hates to witness someone suffering. Her first instinct when seeing someone injured is to rush to their aid, sometimes to her detriment. While naturally curious and with a quick mind for learning, Yuka tends to squash her curiosity as far down as she can, though eventually she always caves and does something to satisfy her curiosity.

Yuka holds the hunters and elders of her tribe in high esteem, but none more than their Chief, Syral Moon-son. In many ways, she views the chief as her hero, knowing that if he hadnít found her out on the ice she would surely have died as a child, and it was his willingness to bring her into the tribe that gave her a home. Sheís willing to do nearly anything he might ask of her, though she draws the line at allowing him to become, or to remain, injured or ill.

When dealing with other tribe members, Yuka is generally polite and fairly submissive in her manner. However, as a Healer, she refuses to allow anyone in her care to take any action that might cause harm to themselves, and is more than willing to stand up to anyone to ensure her patients receive the best care she can give them. Though she rarely gets obviously angry, a sure way to rouse her fury is to interfere with her ability to care for those who she feels needs it, or if someone pretends that they donít need Healing when they clearly do.

The Backstory

Family:
  • Kallik | Father | Yellow to Rose Warlord (missing, presumed dead)
  • Anjij | Mother | Tiger Eye to Summer-sky witch (missing, presumed dead)
  • Valeska Spearfang | Older Sister | Summer-sky to Green Hearthwitch

History:
Born to a Moidyn Varrey witch and her second husband, as a babe Yuka grew up loved and warm. Now only vague memories remain of her earliest years: of laughter, and eyes darkened by sorrow but warmed by love. Glimpses of smiling faces and the gentle touch of callused hands. A memory like a dream of slipping beneath the ice of her homeland into frigid water, searching for the glint of Summer-sky she drew to the surface with her. And of the proud brown eyes in a beloved but serious face, one that she could no longer place, that waited for her above the ice.

Those impressions are the memories Yuka holds closest to her heart, even now that she has a new home, but they arenít the only memories she still has; A blast of cold, the iron clamp of fear making her heart stutter with panic. Indistinct sounds that might have been screams. Then she remembers running, running out onto the unforgiving ice, with nothing but her night clothes and a blanket wrapped around her shoulders.

Yuka doesnít know how long she wandered on the ice flows, how long she shivered in the cold until she no longer shook and everything was numb. Then the hunter came. He seemed larger than life to a young child, with sharp eyes like shards of ice that glittered a pale amber like the light of the sun. He knelt next to her, spoke to her gently, even though she wasnít aware enough to understand the words, and Yuka couldnít find it in herself to be afraid. When he lifted her into his arms, her small body carried carefully but easily, like she weighed nothing to him at all, she found herself drifting off to sleep.

When she woke, memories of her life before hazy, she was among the hunterís tribe, though it turned out that he was no mere hunter, but the chief. This new tribe took her in when she would have frozen to death, nurtured her back to health when her time out in the cold brought her low with fever, and didnít seem to mind that she couldnít clearly remember who she was or where she had come from. These people became her tribe, her home, and Yuka would be eternally grateful to them for saving her.

It didnít take long for her to realize that she grew slower than many of the other children of her new tribe. The chief then brought her to others who didnít age as the other tribe members did, and Yuka learned from them how to handle growing older so slowly. She learned of the difference between the An Corithe and the other Nukti, and wondered at her own lack of claws and thick fur. Any time she thought too long on her lack of a wolf form, a smothered memory of sharp teeth and water coursing over what were not legs rose, but it always faded just as quickly as it had come. Yuka carefully ignored the instinct to slide beneath the water, to hunt with a weight and strength that didnít match her slight body, and turned all her attention and focus on aiding her tribe, on learning how to help them.

She learned and flourished with her new tribe, learning as much Healing Craft as she could manage. And when she was old enough, she underwent her Virgin Night so that she could then make her Offering. Even though she felt an itch beneath her skin to fall beneath the ice to search the dark waters, Yuka resisted and underwent the traditional ceremony of her new tribe and came away with an Opal. Now she serves her tribe as a Healer and uses all of her strength to aid them.
