Origin: Pandar

Appearance:
For the most part the Cervini look like any other human Blood. The differences, while few, are striking. All Cervini, with one exception, bear antlers. Antlers are determined neither by gender or Caste and it is not uncommon to meet a Priestess with more points than a Warlord. Only legends are had to give reason to why one would have more points than other. Usually it is spoken in terms of courage or wisdom, but none can truly say, though many have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of this knowledge.

Cervini antlers are multi-pronged like that of a deer, each branch counting as a point. They begin growing in toddlerhood and stop near the age of majority for most. They sprout from the forehead, between temple and center, one per side. All Cervini children are born with nubs where the bone brace for their antlers resides.

Their noses are broad and flat, nostrils more toward the outer sides of the nose than below and to the center. Their eyes are always dark in color, usually in shades of brown. Red is a common hair color among the Cervini.

The Queens of the Cervini do not have antlers. Queens have nubs, the bone brace of antlers on the forehead. Queens found to have grown a full set of antlers are killed in ritual sacrifice to the Darkness.

Behavior:
Ages past the Cervini were a reclusive people. Since the destruction of Witch and the changes wrought on the world due to her rule and subsequent death, they have come more fully into the world. They feel that their voices need to be heard so that nothing similar may come to pass.

Cervini are attuned to nature. They are superstitious and highly ritualistic. There is a ritual for everything in their culture. Most are personal in nature. Small things usually seen inside a family group. Offerings of thanks at meals, prayers said at the death of food or enemy. Along with the more widespread ceremonies. Birthright and Offering ceremonies are much more ritualistic and involved than seen elsewhere. As are funerals and weddings.

Being hunter gatherers, they live in a small groups (or herds, if you would like), usually headed by a Queen or Priest/ess and a Court. Cervini Courts only have one circle, the rest of the group being viewed as part of the lower circles, but without any actual rank.

Castes:
Cervini do not have Black Widows. None has been born in all of memory to their people. Any who seek training for such a Caste from outsiders is viewed with extreme suspicion.

Warlord Princes are extremely rare. There are more Queens than Warlord Princes among the Cervini. Legend has it that Cervini Warlord Princes grow fangs upon the eve of their Offering Ceremony, which they use to battle the people's enemies.

Legend tells of a Queen who walked among the Cervini with more points than any other. Her antlers were like white ash, and stars shown on their points. This Queen was really Mother Night, trapped in a body she could not break free of. No Cervini child received Jewels from the Darkness during this Queen’s reign, and many of their Priest and Priestesses found themselves unable to reach into the Abyss and commune there with the Darkness.

It was an ill time for the Cervini, until one Priestess saw what the others would not, and set a stone dagger into the heart of their antlered Queen. Since that day, any Queen who grows more than the nubs of her Caste is killed in a ritual of sacrifice to Mother Night, so that she may be returned to the Abyss.

Names and Naming Traditions:
Names among the Cervini are not a birthright. Names are earned or given, usually reflecting the person's personality, an accomplishment or physical ability. Slowly the Cervini are adapting, their names reflecting the territory they reside in as they slowly branch out into the wider world.
Swiftfoot, Evenhand, Stillhorn are a few examples of old-use deed names.
It's vibrant and cheerful, like the sky on a warm, cloudless summer day!   In addition to returns, the Darkness also happily accepts bribes. Guarantees a mid or full Descent. (NOTE: Only usable on a Birthright Jewel that is Green or lighter.)   The Darkness has a surprisingly lenient return policy! (No Birthright to Red - Darker Jewels not guaranteed.)   Pick your own! Allows you to choose a set of Light Jewels that you specify, up to a descent of Light Opal.   When cut just doesn't cut it! (Blood Opal to Ebon-gray)   Allows you to save one set of rolled Jewels for later use.
