Letters and Questions [COMPLETE]
« on: February 01, 2018, 09:15:06 PM »
Lili’s day had begun rather normally. She had harvested the last of the ingredients from the Healers garden, restocked a few of the brews that had been running low. Mostly brews for headaches and anxiety. All in all, it had been an average day for the Healer of Nin’s court. Until she had felt a tremor along the Sapphire. She stopped what she was doing, tending to some of the indoor plants she had sitting in the window of the Healer’s quarters, and closed her eyes to focus on it. It was Kyle. I couldn’t have been anyone else. While it seemed like he had his temper leashed, it seemed to be straining. Lilika sighed softly and shook her head. He must be talking with Ophelia. While she had not been around a long as some of the other court members, she had noticed the tension between the two. It was hard to miss. She wondered why they were talking about that had Kyle so worked up.

She didn’t have to wonder long. One minute the barely controlled vibration of Kyles temper was starting to give her a headache, and the next, he had slammed his barriers so tightly it had made Lili stumble. Then she had gotten the letter. A termination letter. Effective immediately. No notice, no explanation. Just...terminated. It took a couple minutes for it to soak in. Was she the only one who received a letter like this. Something told her the answer to that question was no. But she still wanted to know why. And since it was obviously connected to whatever happened between Kyle and their Queen, she needed to get answers.

And that's why she now found herself moving through the halls of the Queen’s Residence, her Sapphire searching out Kyles as if there were a thread that connected their Jewels. She could have gone to Ophelia, she would have been easy to find, but she had a feeling that she was the last person the Queen would want to see, other than Kyle. The Yellow ruler of Nin had never seemed comfortable around her, even though Lili had never really done anything to earn that mentality. She stopped at a corner and closed her eyes, sending out threads of her own Sapphire to search for Kyles. A small smile pulled at her lips as she found him, deep in the court's gardens.

When she stepped out into the garden, she could feel the emotions rolling off him, and if she had worn a lighter Jewel than the Sapphire, she would have found it hard to breathe. After walking for a couple of minutes, she found him in a crop of trees, his back to her. This was the first time she had seen him, for longer than passing, since she had nearly broken her Sapphire. She wanted to run away. She wanted to run towards him. Instead, she made her way into the crop slowly, making sure he knew she was there so she didn’t surprise him. Surprising a Warlord Prince that was as upset as Kyle seemed to be could be dangerous.

“Kyle….?”

The door shut behind Kyle ever so softly, careful control had to be maintained in every movement as his muscles tensed and clenched, trying to lash out.  He shut his mind completely within itself, not allowing even a stray thought or emotion to peak out. His tears were gone, his face vacant and unnervingly unreadable.  He looked as if he were dead in a sense, crushed beyond anything he'd ever been.

Every movement he made was a controlled dance of cautious deliberation. One step, two. Then a third, he walked through the halls as a ghost.  He was lost to his inner turmoil at the most recent actions.  He had no idea where he was going.  Nothing here was home anymore.  It never really had been.  He'd failed a good Queen.  Not the queen he'd served, no Ophelia Shore was not a Queen. Her caste labeled her as such but she'd bring ruin to everything Kyle loved.

It tried to surface, the cold rage, but Kyle swallowed it down and kept it locked away. Protocol would save him. That was all he had.  He'd lost Lady Fields to treachery.  Ophelia Shore had dismissed him. There was a new surge of pain and he felt his heart clench. He balled both his fist and squeezed them until his knuckles turned white.

He had to leave. He had to escape before he lost control again.  The thought crossed his mind, terrible and vicious. Destroy Ophelia. He clenched his whole body and moved far quicker than most would think possible.  His rage at the woman was threatening to swallow him whole. He just had to give in. Just one moment...

He was in the garden. Kyle looked at his shoes and they disappeared, his socks as well. He felt the earth beneath his feet. He breathed in deeply and felt the earth between his toes. He crouched down and set a hand onto the dirt.  He frowned and closed his eyes.  He breathed in as he started to collect the power of his Sapphire jewel into his hand.  He was about to disperse his energy, to release even a moment of the anger he felt.  Then he felt her. Lilika. His heart beat fast for a moment before it clenched again. The day was nothing but heart sore after heart sore. He wanted to scream, yell. He wanted to end the monstrosity of a Queen. And he did not want to see the girl that constantly hurt his soul and tugged at him.  Kyle's face was still a mask, his emotions shut off and closed off.

He stood and turned to the woman. His heart stopped for a moment and caught in his throat.  He closed his eyes as he listened to everything around him. He refocused where he was and what he had to do.  "Lady Pyralis." Kyle's voice was cold and rough. He kept his hands at his side as he stared at the woman.

Lilika stood frozen, held in place by the lack of emotion on his face and the tone of his voice. So close to slipping the leash only he controlled. So close to taking that step onto the field. She couldn’t know what he was thinking, not really. His barriers were locked so tightly, if she hadn’t known him the way she did, she probably wouldn’t be able to tell anything about his mood at all. What had Ophelia done, said, that had pushed him this far? Inwardly she cursed the Yellow Jeweled Queen. It took quite a lot to get Kyle to this point, his body nearly shaking with barely controlled rage.

She had to be careful. Things were still sore between the two of them, having spent most of their time avoiding each other as much as possible. While there were times she knew that she could push Kyle by not following Protocol as closely as she should, she knew that right now was not one of those times. With no Queen to rein in his temper, Lili would have to rely on protocol and her knowledge of the man himself to help steer the situation in a direction that would cause the least amount of damage...or death.

She bowed her head, acknowledging his rank and their matching Jewels before straightening, looking him in the eye, hoping that he could see that she wasn’t scared of him, just concerned for him. The last thing she needed was for him to think she was scared. It might be enough to send him over the Edge. With is barriers shut so tightly, she wasn’t exactly sure how close he was, but she did know he was close. She also opened her first two barriers, showing him that she trusted him, even while he was in his current mental state. She didn’t want any pretense between them.  She called in the letter that had appeared to her and held it up for him to see, letting him know with actions why she had sought him out, at least the most basic reason.

“Prince Medin. I’m sorry for intruding on your solitude. I came to ask you about the letter I received. It is a rather sudden dismissal and I wanted to know if it was due to something I did, or if it was for some other reason.”

She wanted to step forward, to reach out and touch him. He was hurting. She could feel it. Not through her Jewel, but her heart. Through the connection they seemed to have that had nothing to do with their Jewels and everything to do with their feelings for each other. Lili knew he cared, maybe even loved her. And she loved him. That love drove her to want to throw Protocol to the wind, as she so often did with Kyle, and hold him to her, to promise him things would be alright, that she would be by his side no matter what. But now wasn’t the time for confessions or promises. She wanted, needed to get to the bottom of what happened and figure out the best way to help the man she loved before he did something that would scar him forever.

His heart beat just bit faster, though it didn't show on his face or in his voice. Kyle stared for a moment as Lady Pyralis showed her expert use of Protocol. It made him focus on her more. Their Jewels were similar, their rank however...

She showed her acceptance of his dominant rank which eased some of the roughness. He could taste her barriers open.  His knee jerk reaction was to taste the emotions in the air. Trust. So much trust in his control. Control? Yes, he'd never hurt Lilika Pyralis. She was the girl...woman he needed. He was angry with her of course. But he still lo... his thoughts stopped as she spoke.

"Lady," a cold, vicious sound came from Kyle as he spoke the next word, "Shore has decided I am unfit to serve. She has burned my contract." His words were dripping with venom that no one knew could come from Kyle Medin.  "In doing so she has broken the court and all contracts I had a hand in writing. You are free to serve who you desire."

That was it. That's all the explanation that needed to be given. It hurt.  His heart clenched again, pain, sorrow...he turned away, his hand behind his back now, still visible to Lili.  He looked ahead with his eyes growing more dull and lifeless as all his options vanished before him.  The Territory Queen needed to be made aware.  The Court was broken and not in an easy way to fix.  It was his duty to inform her of his dismissal.  Lilika was still standing there though. He could feel her Sapphire as much as his seizing heart. He glanced back, just enough, "Does that explain well enough Lady Pyralis?" His voice softened for the first time as he spoke her name, though his emotions were still hidden.

Lili sighed softly, her eyes close ding briefly to collect her thoughts. Of course, his anger was tied to Lady Shore. That seemed to always be the case. She liked Ophelia well enough as a woman, though they could have even been friends if they had met outside the court, but her timid, fearful treatment of the darker Jeweled members of her court grated and rubbed her the wrong way. She could understand why serving her hadn’t been a good fit for Kyle, but there was something else there as well. Something that had been kept from her by the whole court. When things were more settled she would look into it more. Right now she had bigger problems.

When he turned his back to her, all she could do was stare at him. There was so much anger in him. She didn’t need for his barrier to be open to sense it. She could see it in the tendering of his body, the stiffness of his movements. She had seen him angry before of course, like when he had protected her from those boys, or when he had gone to the Territory capital after Magda had been killed, but that was a different kind of anger. This was an anger born from the feeling of betrayal and hurt. Kyle had held his own leash for too long, and he was finally buckling under the stress and pressure of not having a Queen who could take control of that leash.

When he spoke next, his voice wasn’t as sharp, or devoid of emotion. Just being in her presence seemed to take the tiniest edge off his anger, and he didn’t even know why. Not really. Of course, his feelings for her helped, but there was something else, a part of him that had known her secret even without actually knowing. Her fingers absently played with the small charm that hung on its own chain next to her Sapphire Jewel. A charm designed to look like her namesake, the fire lily. A charm that had kept her secret for 15 years. If she didn’t do this now, Kyle’s anger might eat him alive and drive him into doing something that would get him killed, and she couldn’t lose him, not now. Not ever. Whether she wanted to or not, this was something she had to do. It was time. “Yes, I understand completely.” Her voice didn’t waver, though it did sound a bit tired.

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes to steady herself. When she was ready, she opened her eyes and have the charm a hard yank, not even flinching when the chain snapped from around her neck. She shivered, charm still clutched in her hand, as she felt the web fall away, like shedding a layer of dead skin. A sigh passed her lips as the part of herself that he been locked away unfurled like the petals of a flower after winter. He would have noticed the change by now. The new scent that had flowed and flooded the garden. It was too late to back down now. She stood straighter, calling on all her secret lessons and training to add authority to her voice and keep it calmer than she was actually feeling before speaking. “Prince Medin….attend.”

Kyle waited, listening to the silence in the dead garden.  It was proof how horrible of a Queen he had served. He wanted to feed it, to nurture it, but that wasn't within his ability. The Land needed a good Queen. His chest pained again, shooting through his chest and making his eyes squint shut as another tear fell. He hoped he was dying. Lilika could move on to someone far better than him.

Kyle glanced back looking at her longingly for a moment. She was foolish and brash, sweet and gentle.  She'd royally pissed him off, but she was still alive.  It had hurt so much to have to sit there while she slept and not be there when she woke up.  He wanted to yell, he'd wanted to break something.  Now? All he wanted to do was latch onto her and let her calm in the odd way she did.

Kyle took a breath in and slowly let it out. He felt himself start to slip. Her understanding was validation, and consent for him to slip down into his Self.  His true Self. He was a moment, an breaths span away, from walking the Fields. Mine. He breathed in the odd scent. Mine. his mind said more determined, insistent.  Kyle breathed in the scent again and his heart quickened just a touch more than it had before. Queen. Hers. Attend.

Kyle turned, the tear streak still on his face, a look of confusion and adoration on his face. The leash was yanked from his grasp in an instant.  It was dizzying as he forced himself from the Killing Edge by order for the first time in recent years. He took an obvious deep breath in as he looked at his friend, the woman he adored and lo...

"Lady Pyralis." It was obvious she'd done two things to the poor man. First she'd knocked him for a loop. He was confused and unsure of what was happening.  Secondly, he was listening, had given his leash to her in a moment and it would be impossible to take that back.  He was irrevocably hers and he knew it.  His eyes searched hers for answers as she jerked him into obeying with only her voice.

And there it was. The look she had always feared she see from him. She almost physically felt the moment when his control, his temper, his life, became hers. So much so she flexed her hand as if his leash were a tangible thing. She felt the weight of him, and it threatened to make her knees buckle, but she had to bare it, ensure it. For him. She watched as a weight seemed to be lifted from his shoulders just by surrendering to her. She wanted him, but not like this.

His questioning eyes made her want to look anywhere but at him, but she made herself keep eye contact. No doubt he would have noticed the scar by now as well. Would he remember where it had come from she wondered? She tried to smile, but it was a sad, pathetic thing, but she did try.

"I know you have many questions. Valid questions. And I am more than willing to answer them." But not here, not now. She looked around, suddenly feeling too caged, confined. Others in the Residence would have noticed the addition of such a Dark Queen, and she didn't want to face their questions, or accusations right now...or ever. Never was good. "However, because of what happened today, it might be better if we go somewhere else to talk."

She didn't feel safe, not anymore, and she made sure he could sense it, and that it had nothing to do with him. She was turning to him to keep her safe. Her discomfort and distress would stay any further questions or arguments until he felt she was safe. Enough time fit her to figure out exactly what she was going to tell him and do next.

There was a memory that tickled the back of his mind.  Something that still was missing for the whole puzzle to make sense.  It was odd. Kyle wanted to chase the memory.  His face contorted from confused to thoughtful back to the confused look. He knew that scar.  He knew the story behind it. However his mind was still blocking that from him. Then she spoke.

His heart eased, though it beat just a bit faster as his other side rolled over. It was tame for the first time in ages. He wasn't sure what to do until Lili gave him the answer.  "Somewhere...else?" he was hesitant, then the hesitation turned to resolve as she reached out to him, expecting him to serve. There was no choice. Defend.

He crossed the distance between them far quicker than was expected.  He grabbed her waist and pulled her against him, face to face.  With how close they were he couldn't help his body reacting, as it had started doing before this moment, with his Queen's scent mixed in and so near.  He bit his lip enough for there to be blood. He was straining, confused, yet resolved in his duty.

He didn't ask before the Darkness surrounded them and they were riding the Sapphire Winds to a small cottage on the edge of the border of Askavi.  It was a calm place, Kyle knew it well since he lived here whenever he went into Rut.  There was a small pond and the cottage was just barely within an outcropping of trees.  Kyle didn't move from where they landed though, her scent distracting him as he looked into her eyes. "Lady Pyralis...Lilika...Lili." he bit his lip again as he realized he'd known the whole time.

Lili saw the moment his instincts took over and braced for his reaction. Even still his sudden movement caught her off guard and she gasped softly when he grabbed her and pulled her against him. Reflexively she wrapped her arms around his neck, blue eyes gazing into green as they faced each other. Pressed to close against him, it was impossible for her to not notice his bodies reaction to her and while a part of her was excited by this, another part was sad and confused. Did he react that way because she was Lili, or because she was his Queen? When the familiar feeling of the Winds touched her, she pressed her face against his neck, her eyes squeezing closed. She didn’t have much experience traveling this way, though she had when she needed to get somewhere fast, mostly for healings.

After what seemed like hours, but was probably 15 minutes or so, Lili opened her eyes, glancing around before turning her gaze back to Kyle, who hadn’t take his eyes off her. She watched him watch her, her eyes glancing down to his lip, seeing the welling of blood there. Tentatively she moved her hand, which had been clutching at his shirt, her fingers gently brushing over his abused lips, coming away with a bit of blood on tips. When he stumbled over her title and name, she glanced back up at him through her lashes, the intensity of his gaze causing her stomach to do small flips. She wanted to put the charm back on. Not to hide what she was anymore, it would do no good anyway, now that he knew. No, she wanted to cover the scar the ran from the inside corner of her right eye to the top of her cheekbone. Had the boy been a bit better with his aim, she would have lost the eye.

She didn’t know what to do, to say, but knew that something needed to happen. The cabin caught her eye and she moved back putting a bit of space between them. Before he could protest at the lack of contact she took his hand in hers and moved towards the cabin. “There is much to talk about and it’s getting chilly.. We might as well be comfortable while we do it.” As they made their way towards the dwelling she took the chance to look around, a small smile playing across her face. It was a quaint, quiet place. She liked it. It was simple but comfortable and homey. It was very Kyle. As they neared, something in the air made her slow her steps. It wasn’t that something was wrong, but there was something….strange that she wasn’t able to place.

The feeling increased as they got closer to the cabin, and her heart started to beat faster, her body tensing. Whatever it was, it was pulling her towards the door. Her eyes glazed slightly as her thoughts started to get a bit foggy. When the door of the house opened with the help of some craft, the unfiltered, unbridled scent of rage, lust, and maleness that was uniquely Kyle washed over her, pulling a soft predatory growl from deep in her throat. This was the place where he retreated for his Rut. She inhaled deeply, the power of her Sapphire pulsing as she slowly turned towards Kyle, the normal cornflower color of her eyes deepening as her pupils dilated. The scent of his lust and need, even diluted by time as it was, brought her own repressed feelings to the surface, her psychic scent dripping with arousal. The door behind him slammed shut and a Sapphire shield went up around the entire cabin. If she’d been in her right mind she would have known he could break it, though it wouldn’t have been easy since they both wore the Sapphire, but she wasn’t thinking clearly. The only thought in her head right now was Kyle and the easiest and fastest way to get him out of his clothing. “Kyle….” her voice was dangerously low and husky as she said his name, bringing the fingers with his blood still on them to her lips, running her tongue over the red liquid.

Kyle's memory tried to kick in again, that scar under her eye...there was something that was familiar. There was tug from deep down, a contented growl.  It was only in his mind but he knew he had something to do with making sure it had been taken care of. What had happened though? Why was his mind blocking that from him still? He just couldn't understand it.

Then she'd pulled away and a soft half whine, half aching groan escaped his lips but her touch stopped him as she grasped his hand. He nodded as he looked to the cabin and swallowed.  His mouth was suddenly parched as he realized the last time he'd had anyone here. The answer was simple and worried him more.  He never had since the builders left.  No one but him and his Other Self during those times he needed refuge from the clawing women and the desire to destroy and kill anyone who wasn't...it hit him like a steel training saber.  Lilika. His body tensed as they walked.  He'd always wanted Lili, desired her in a way that was initially platonic. He'd always craved to serve her.  He'd belonged to her for so long that he'd never realized the intensity of the need until she'd shown up, fully grown and in front of him.

He noted her slowing but was too engrossed in the shock that he'd loved her and been pulled towards her for so long without realizing it.  Deep down he knew, it's why no other Queen felt right.  They could be good Queens and he'd serve, but never had he felt so helplessly in love with one, the need to serve and protect her pulling at him as if she truly held his leash and it was formed for her hand. He broke the Sapphire Lock on the door and opened it. The air didn't affect him, it was him. Or so he thought. The intensity of years of Rutting and never releasing, the need in the room was a fog that he absorbed.  It started drawing his Other Self out.  This was his territory.  His home.

The cabin was basic in its entirety.  It was all one large room with no dividers.  A bed big enough to 2 or 3 people lay in the back corner.  As soon as they entered to the right was a small dining area with a table for two and to the left was a kitchen area.  There was a sink and a cold box up against the wall and a wood fire stove next to the window.  Across from the bed area was a fireplace with a rug and two comfortable chairs, one of which looked well used and damaged in places.  The other had never been sat in.  There was a thin, almost unnoticeable layer of dust on the ground.

Kyle was about to close the door, was about to snap a Sapphire Lock on it however his Queen caught his attention as it slammed.  His Other Self turned to her, not Kyle but also completely Kyle. A Warlord Prince facing his Queen. His name from her lips called him, his eyes watching her lick his blood, a low growl, his head lowering in submission and acceptance of her power over him.  He could feel her arousal in the air mixing with his Rut scent. It was enticing and his eyes only blurred everything except for her.  Lilika Pyralis, his Queen Healer, was the woman he loved with everything in him.  Her aggression enraptured him as it pulled out his true Self.

Kyle was surprisingly slow in his movements. The air thick between them, his hand moved up to her cheek as if weighted by the fog scent around them. His eyes locked with her. "My Lili," a predatory smile spread on his lips as he moved with purpose to kiss her deeply, needing to feel her against him again.  It was not a chaste kiss, and it certainly requested a few things that she was already desiring.

She felt something rise within Kyle, the other side of him that was instinctive, violent and pure Warlord Prince. It only served to increase her own arousal. She watched his movements closely, two predators measuring each other up before a fight. The touch of his hand on her cheek brought a sound from deep inside her chest, a mix of a growl and purr. The possessiveness of his words caused her entire body to tense and when his lips finally touched hers it was as if a dam had burst. Their combined lust washed over her and she moaned against his lips, her arms going around his neck, her fingers threading through his hair. She had wanted him, needed him for so long and all of those repressed and pent-up feelings flowed down the link between them.

She pressed herself as close against him as she could, the heat and scent of his body driving her closer and closer edge. The edge of what, she wasn’t sure, but she knew it wouldn’t be long before she gladly tumbled over it. As the kiss intensified and her temperature rose, Lili found that her clothing began to feel constricting and itchy. Too many layers. To much space between them. She had to get closer.

In the blink of an eye, all clothing but her undergarments, which consisted of a light blue silk chemise, white underbust corset, blue silk panties and sheer white stockings, were gone. Her arms slid from around his neck and started working at the buttons on his shirt, having enough sense to not use craft to rid him of his clothing as well. She growled softly as the buttons slipped through her fingers, mocking her with their continued defiance. The growl turned feral as she hooked her fingers into the fabric and pulled, the sound of buttons popping and falling to the cabin floor causing her to purr against his lips. Her hands roamed over the plains of his stomach and chest, happy to have been given access to so much skin. She pressed forward, her teeth grazing over his lip as she drew her nails over his flesh.

She pulled away from him, Kyle’s bottom lip caught between her teeth. She let it slip free as she moved her lips across his cheek and then traced the shell of his ear with her tongue. When she spoke, her voice was gravely and heavy with need. “You are wearing too many clothes, Prince.” she took his hand and led him towards the bed, her clothing disappearing little by little as she used Craft to vanish it. When she reached the bed, she lowered herself onto it, and pulled Kyle down with her, using Craft to get rid of his clothing as well. "Mmmmm much better." threading her fingers through his hair, she pulled him down on top of her and kissed him deeply. "It's time for you to serve Prince..."
