Sirin Vedis

The Basics

Full Name: Sirin Vedis
Age: 22
Gender/Pronouns: Female, She/Her

Ethnicity: Glacian, Firarlith
Birthplace: City of Stavangar, Glacia
Current Location: Glacia
Profession: Queen of Stavangar

Caste: Hearth Witch Queen
Birthright Jewel: Green (CUT 51)
Offering Jewel: Gray (CUT 87)

Face Claim: Emilia Clarke

The Body

Height: 5' 2"
Body Type: Slender
Hair Color: White-blond
Eye Color: Blue-green

Appearance:
Sirin prefers to wear her pale hair pulled back from her face, and often favors braids to accent her look and keep her wavy hair under control. Her wardrobe is full primarily of dresses, warm tops and skirts that accent her slender figure, as well as various capes, shawls and scarves for layering in the cold climate of her homeland.

Generally shy, Sirin doesn't usually exude confidence, often walking with her head down, but when she genuinely feels it's needed, she holds her head high and carries herself like the Queen she is. Her Jewels are set into a torc she wears around her neck and in a ring on her right hand.

The Mind

Craft Strengths: 15pts

Spell Weaving
Heating & Cooling Spells
Calming Spells
Queen's Gift
Blood Bonds
Craft Weaknesses: Sirin finds all Psychic Spells other than Calming difficult. She's also personally weak to Psychic Craft.

Personal Strengths: Sirin is a determined and often stubborn woman. She is caring and dutiful, and is surprisingly adept with knives.
Personal Weaknesses: Sirin is shy and gets rather nervous around strangers. She suffers from mild social anxiety.

Personality:
Shy and anxious when meeting new people or dealing with large groups of unfamiliar people, Sirin is a soft spoken, kind lady. She tends to worry about her friends and family at all times, and often extends that chronic worry to even strangers she meets. Despite worrying and fretting over others, having someone do the same for her confuses her to no end, especially when she knows she remains safely behind the city walls for the most part.

Sirin is intelligent, and fairly intuitive, especially in regards to the emotions of others. She is determined to complete whatever she sets her mind on, regardless of the anxiety interacting with unknowns brings her. Due to her upbringing, Sirin often weaves or knits when she's stressed or working through a problem. People who get close to her will usually find themselves the owners of personalized handmade scarves, cloaks or gloves that have heating or calming spells woven through them.

The Backstory

Family:
  • Vedis | Paternal Grandmother | Summer-sky to Opal Queen (Deceased)
  • Bjřrn | Father | Yellow to Summer-sky Warlord
  • Sella | Mother | White to Tiger Eye Hearth Witch
  • Eirik | Older Brother | Purple Dusk to Sapphire Warlord
  • Naja | Younger Sister | White to Tiger Eye Hearth Witch Healer

History:
Sirin was born in autumn to Bjřrn, a guardsman of the Sjefhjem of Stavangar and his well-known weaver wife, Sella. Vedis, her paternal grandmother lived with them, and Sirin grew up listening to her stories, and learning from her what she was too shy to ask her teachers, as well as some things only another Queen could explain.

In her off time, young Sirin liked to "help" her mother with her business that sold high-end clothing and cloth items. As she got older, she gained enough skill at weaving, knitting and embroidering that she could actually help supply the shop. Her mother taught her how to weave spells into the cloth, and encouraged her to experiment. Once her little sister was old enough, Sirin helped teach her how to Spell Weave as well, and watched in pride as Naja mastered the art and wove the power of Healing Webs and Regenerative Webs into the cloth she made for bandages.

Once Sirin was old enough by her father's standards, he and her brother Eirik began teaching her hand-to-hand. When she had a solid grasp on defending herself bare-handed, they taught her to use an assortment of knives, including ones that could be easily found in most households.

The year she would turn 10, she had her Birthright Ceremony during the Frjosemi festival. That evening, her mother gifted Sirin with a scarf laced with a Calming Spell that had the city's symbol stitched in white on one end, and their family's personal symbol stitched in green on the other, as Sella had waited to finish it until after Sirin's Ceremony.

In the winter of Sirin's 14th year, Vedis died. Having been very close to her grandmother, she decided to take her name as a tribute to her, and has called herself Sirin Vedis ever since.

When it came time to choose what she wanted to do at 15, Sirin decided against working with her mother in her shop, despite her love for the work, and instead chose to apprentice herself to the city's Queen in the hopes of aiding her city as her grandmother once had.

When Sirin turned 20, she decided it was time to make her Offering to the Darkness. The day after her birthday, she entrusted her Virgin Night to a close family friend. The week after, Sirin made her Offering with the Dreki Purler lighting the sky. With her new power to aid her, Sirin continued her work to aid her people in the ways only a Queen could. Not quite a year and a half later, the previous Queen stepped down during Frjosemi and passed the city into Sirin’s hands.

Roleplay Sample:
It was cold. The winter wind that whipped through the gathered crowd seemed to cut straight through all of Sirin's layers. Even her favorite too-big shawl, and the heating spell her mother had woven into it, couldn't seem to touch the cold. Sirin's face burned, her eyes stung, and if she told herself it was the wind that caused it, that drew tears to her eyes? Well, that was her prerogative. Perhaps she could blame it on the smoke of the celebratory pyres.

A gentle touch to her shoulder drew her eyes upward to meet her father's gaze. Bjřrn was usually a man of few words, and on this night where they celebrated her grandmother's life because it had come to an end, he was even more somber. Still, he smiled gently at her, and she found it in herself to return it with trembling lips.

"Here you go, Sirin." He murmured to her, offering the cup filled with her family's favorite liquor, traditionally only brought out for family celebrations.

"Thanks, da." She was proud that her hands didn't tremble as she lifted the cup in a salute to her grandmother's memory, even as she felt the eyes of all the people Vedis had touched rest on her family, standing before the largest pyre. "To you, grandma. May Mother Night hold you close in her embrace. I love you." The young Queen drank deep from the cup before offering it back to her father. She met his eyes with a rare courage and fire in her eyes. Her voice was the strongest it had ever been as she addressed all who had gathered. "From tonight onwards, I wish to be known as Sirin Vedis, so that her legacy will live on in me. I want to continue her work and help our city prosper."

One shuddering in-drawn breath later, and Sirin was immediately struck by how bold she’d been in front of so many people. Embarrassment prickled up her spine and would have turned her pale cheeks red if they hadn’t already been rosy from the cold. As soon as the attention of the crowd shifted to her brother and sister as they in turns took the cup and made their toasts, Sirin was ducking away from the firelight and searching for an exit. Her part in the celebration was done, so surely it was fine if she left to get some space?

The darkened entrance of a street called to her, and she darted for it as fast as she dared, only breathing easier as the sounds of the celebration faded. Her breath misted in the air as she quickly made the turn that would bring her onto her street, spotting her home lit brightly like a beacon midway down. She made the turn too quickly, her boots losing purchase on the frozen-over stonework of the street, and Sirin found herself on the cold ground with a smarting rear.

“Ow.” She muttered to herself. “At least no one was around to see.” The crunch of a boot on ice came from behind her, and Sirin buried her face in her hands. “I shouldn’t have said anything.”
