Mihail snorted and shook his head, taking another sip of his drink, reconsidering the wisdom of engaging this, but here he was.
“So either this is an act.” He said, gesturing at Tobias with his free hand. “Or the rumours are bullshit.” He hoped the latter. Though he was also relying on the man’s reputation to be true, otherwise he’d spend a lot of marks only to let Dustan disappear further.

It was complicated.

He eyed Tobias, who still seemed to be skeptical of him, and Mihail wasn’t sure why. Did he need to beat him at a game of armwrestling first? If Tobias thought he was weak he had another thing coming. He was going to destroy Dustan for what he’d done.

“I’d say likewise, but apparently I don’t know you well enough to say one way or another.” He said dryly, taking another sip of the beer -- a bigger one, because he wanted to be done here and go home. Drinking fast really wasn’t in his best interest though, certainly not when it was a fucking pint of beer.

”Guess you’re gonna find out,” Tobias replied with a shrug. Really, it was a mixture — it was an act, to a point, but the rumors were true enough for the most part. He didn’t have to be as vicious as he had once, not now that his reputation had been established. Every once in a while, he had to do something to remind them he was still serious, but for the most part… It was easy.

He grinned at the comeback, approving of the man’s words. ”Maybe we’ll get to know each other,” he said cheerfully. He doubted the kid wanted that, but he was going to figure out what had happened one way or another. It would drive him crazy if he didn’t. If that meant nagging Mihail a little more, he’d do it until his curiosity was satisfied.

He wasn’t planning on finding out much of anything else about Tobias Marasfield. The way this had played out in his head it was going to be simple. Tobias would find Dustan, and that was all he would need to know about Tobias -- that he could actually find people like his sources claimed.

He’d been raised better than to get involved with stuff like this, and when the suggestion of this becoming a lot more than Mihail had intended it to be, he pursed his lips.
“I doubt that.” He said with a shake of his head. He hadn’t come to make friends, and he didn’t particularly need the association with the Marasfield family. Not when he had Lirielle to secure all their futures.

What need did they have of a crime syndicate?

For the most part, Tobias had thought the kid was cute — trying so hard, but so utterly out of his depth. But with only three words and the look on his face, he made it clear just what he thought about Tobias — and by extension, his family. Though the jovial smile remained on his lips, his good will vanished, leaving behind only the job.

Fucking courts, thinking they were so much better than the rest of them. He might not do things the traditional way, but that didn't mean he was any less than the sycophants in a court.

He shrugged, downing his drink, setting the tumbler down on the table. He rose and stretched lazily. ”Well, Mihail,” he said, fighting the urge to call him kid just to needle him, ”I’ll be contacting you in a day or two. Make sure you’re ready.”

Suddenly all the geniality faded like a snowball in hell, and things got cold out of nowhere.
“It’s business,” He reminded Tobias of their very real transaction, because for someone who didn’t go wanting for friends or attention from the looks of things he seemed to take this startlingly hard.

Evidently this should’ve been the first thing to settle with Tobias, as all of a sudden he didn’t seem interested in anything anymore. He wasn’t entirely sure if that was a good thing or not. It sure as fuck felt more dangerous now than it had a few minutes ago, and he felt like he was a little closer to finding out which was the facade and which was the truth.

He also stood, even though he still had half of his drink left -- unlike Tobias, he wasn’t capable of just chugging it like that.
“Good I’ll be waiting.” He said, just to -- once again -- point out that he was ready for this, that he knew what he was getting into. That he wasn’t some cute kid looking for a fight.

Still, he was raised with proper manners, and he extended a hand to Tobias.

Fucking courts. Fucking arrogant kids. ”Sure, kid,” he said amicably, finally unable to keep himself from naming him as he had in his mind. Business and pleasure weren’t always mutually exclusive, and he blurred the boundaries between those things all the time. It was more fun that was, but Mihail wanted a simple business transaction instead of a business relationship.

”You should finish your drink,” Tobias suggested. The kid could definitely stand to fucking relax, and if it took a little bit of booze to make that happen, well…

”I’m sure you will be,” he said agreeably, accepting the offered hand in a firm shake. He might’ve been a little offended by the aristo court brat, but he could still be polite. He didn’t try to grip too hard or test the Warlord, simply shaking his hand and letting go. ”See ya soon.”
