Rhett Prentice

The Basics

Full Name: Rhett Prentice
Age: 40
Gender/Pronouns: Male he/him

Ethnicity: Short lived
Birthplace: Dena Nehele
Current Location: Niwlen, Dena Nehele
Profession: Province Ruler

Caste: Warlord
Birthright Jewel: Tiger Eye (CUT 74)
Offering Jewel: Purple Dusk (CUT 72)

Face Claim: Colin Farrell

The Body

Height: 5'11
Body Type: Active
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown

Appearance:
Better to be average than ugly. That was what Rhett's mother always told him when he envied other boys curls or blue eyes. And he was decidedly average. Dark hair and eyes as brown as the soil he toils over. Skin taken on the dusky kiss of too much sun. A lean frame forced to hold muscle by hard work.

Despite what most would consider a prominent position in the Territory he rarely looks the part. Plain cotton shirts and trousers to make his farming comfortable. Worn boots to match. There is no salary in what he does for Dena Nehele, so despite the title he really is just a middle class farmer.

The Mind

Craft Strengths: 15pts
Preservation Spells
Physical Shields
Physical Enhancement
Vermin Warding
Craft Weaknesses: Pretty much abysmal at all psychic craft.

Personal Strengths: Stoic, intelligent, opinionated
Personal Weaknesses: Stubborn, emotional detachment, so many opinions

Personality:
In a region still recovering from war an education is hard to come by. With the best tutors his mother's prostitution could afford (it was a lot, she was good at it) Rhett became well versed in diplomacy, history, and Protocol. Lessons on viticulture were key to the Prentice family's future success. Thankfully he was a naturally clever boy, absorbing all he was taught like a sponge does water. That knowledge was imparted to every local farmer in walking distance. They appreciated the tips on balance the soil and cross breeding vines. Rhett quickly started to suspect his mother was right- he was just the smartest fellow around!

If that sounds a bit arrogant... well he is. The pampering and spoiling did nothing for his stubbornness or developing sense of opinions. And does he ever have opinions. Nothing escapes his notice, and even when he's only smiling snidely in your direction you can be assured he is judging you. Thanks to his mother's superfluous workload he spent more time with tutors than getting any significant attention. He blames that for his struggles with forming attachment. Perhaps its true. Who knows? Regardless he has always taken a long time to develop relationships- it's only really ever happened with his children.

The Backstory

Family:
  • Abigail Temple | Ex-Wife | White to Tiger Eye Witch
  • Grace Prentice | Daughter | Rose Birthright Healer - 18
  • Silence Prentice | Son | White Birthright Warlord - 16
  • Joan Mire | Ex-Wife | Summer-sky to Green Healer
  • Patience Prentice | Son | Summer-sky Birthright Warlord - 12
  • Emeline Prentice nee Cresswell | Estranged Wife | Green to Red Healer

History:
In a land of rampant poverty Rhett Prentice was luckier than most. His father was a mystery, one of several possibilities, none of which ever showed up to claim him. Mommy, however, came from a long line of Prentices. For generations the family held a moderate estate in Niwlen, various members participating in the province and territory Courts. Even through the war with Witch the Prentice House stood, her men and women falling in the trampled vineyards. All the way down the line to Rhett's mother. Who at sixteen, as the only living Prentice left, turned the house into a Red Moon House.

The whoring kept them all fed while many others starved. They lost very little and often gave to their neighbors. He was privately tutored to ensure his mother's dream of seeing the manor house restored to a prominent vineyard. Clever, and a fan of the attention his education earned him, Rhett spent his childhood dedicated to his studies. At eight he received the Tiger Eye for a Birthright. Not the promise of a dark jewel his mother had hoped for. It was enough, though, for a well educated Warlord to resurrect once fertile ground.

His chance came when he was twenty. Mother married and moved to Shalador with her husband. The Red Moon House workers slowly dispersed while Rhett prepared the fields for new growth. On a loan he planted a crop of grapes. The yield was just enough to keep him afloat. With time and experience he even started to turn a profit.

In his village Rhett was popular with the young ladies. Attractive enough, not dangerously jeweled, moderately caste with a nice big house. He was married young... the first time. A few weeks after he left the Temple where his Offering bestowed the Purple Dusk, he entered it again. Handfasted and sworn to spend the rest of his days with a busty young witch whose Offering jewel matched his Birthright. They were electric together. Six months after they were married she bore a healthy, full term daughter. Whispers spread, but they were married so what could really be said? Those first years were pleasant. Slowly, though, Rhett's arrogance wore at her seemingly infinite patience. She stayed until after their second child was born.

Once freed of needing his protection Abigail took both children, divorced Rhett, and moved back to the village. He was missed his babies, but slept better alone in his bed. So when he married his second wife, they kept separate rooms. As a healer she traveled extensively. Which was likely why their marriage lasted as long as it did. They were never electric, more like explosive. Rhett had a second son with Lady Mire. A few years later she left too. Unlike his first wife she left the child. When she comes back to Niwlen between travels she visits, but Patience Prentice is his father's son.

When Caleb Ardelia took up the territory's helm many men stepped forward to offer their service. Rhett, of course, among them. A strong territory needs a strong core. Niwlen Province was entrusted to his guidance. As was a pretty new wife in need of his protection. She was fleeing an abuse family, looking for her Virgin Night and someone to keep her safe. For once Rhett found himself forming a personal connection. Something strange and private growing between them. He realized what had been wrong in every other marriage. There had not been love. Then Emeline kissed his cheek one afternoon and said she would be back.

He hasn't seen her since. And that was six years ago.

Life goes on. His service to the Ardelia family continues. Even though it has meant opening his home to the Province Court... screeching, gestating queenlings and all.
